New Plazer

Hot on the heels of last week’s Plazes upgrade, the Windows version of Plazer has been updated. Plazer is a small application that runs on your system and tries to figure out where in the world you are located, based on your network connection (I say it tries to do this – it doesn’t work with a dialup or 3G connection, but broadband is fine). It is not spyware and it doesn’t get in the way of what you are doing on your PC, it just hooks you in to all the location information that Plazes knows about.

According to the release notes, the new version is smaller, has an updated visual style, and supports the current version of the API. I was alerted to it by the existing version offering me the update, but I guess the version on the website will be up-to-date (even though the screenshots still show the older version).

  1. When I turned on my mac while in Constanta, Plazes spotted me! I thought it was amazing and freaky at the same time!

  2. It’s pretty cool, isn’t it! I can see you in my buddies list at the moment. Weirdly, on the My World tab of your profile, it looks like you’ve discovered 3 Plazes so far… but in the My Plazes tab it only shows one.
