Different voices

Last night we had our team Christmas get-together. Given the distributed nature of our team, I spent some time re-acquainting myself with various colleagues who I only see once in every few months / quarters / years. It was a good evening.

One of the things that was said to me was that my blog posts didn’t sound like me.

Hmm. Maybe I have multiple personas. Am I the same in person as I am in print? I suppose I’d have to ask more people who know me really well in person to read my blog.

I’m actually a very shy person… which I was explaining to people yesterday, and they were really surprised. It’s the nature of my job as a consultant to need to get to know people very quickly, so I’ve had to get over my natural aversion to saying hello, calling people up, and so on. It has been an effort, but well worth it 🙂

  1. I consider myself pretty introverted as well – Andy, please stop guffawing. But blogging gives me a voice where I’m not quite as shy about speaking up.

Maybe blogging is the shy person’s outlet….

  2. Perhaps it’s a consequence-free environment. 🙂 He says, not being in the least bit shy the last time he checked. 🙂
