اندي بيبير

My turn at the unofficial meme sweeping around the IBM bloggers.

According to Rob’s amazing English/Arabic transliteration tool, my name is اندي بيبير when transliterated to Arabic.

And neither Firefox nor Windows Live Writer have broken into a sweat 🙂

Well… it just sort of started, didn’t it? Bad phrasing on my part.

  3. Last night, Roo and I discussed who actually started the meme. Its not clear; was his post a meme before my post copied was inspired by it? Now that you’ve done it, its clearly a meme. Maybe 3 posts and you’re a meme.

  6. Aha, good one Marius, that will teach me to check. Actually Rob did tell me last week that the P is a B. I didn’t think to try going back the other way, though.

  7. When I saw that transliteration in Arabic, I read it initially as ‘Andy Baybeer’.. lol
Due to the way that Arabic is written (without many of the short vowels) when writing non-Arabic names there are systems used to ensure the name is spelt/said correctly. For your name I would suggest the following spelling – أندي پايپر
It is unorthodox in that it uses a letter P which is borrowed from Persian as Arabic has no letter P (Ever hear an Arab say Pepsi? Bebsee) however this letter is well understood nowadays by most Arabic speakers.
So that would be pronounced phonetically as ‘Andee Payp’r’ which sounds alot better than Andee Baybeer’
